Hula Dancing on Heritage Day at Calgary’s Prince’s Island Park Stage:
There is nothing like dancing on a massive stage, on a hot August day, for an island park full of happy people!
Barbara, Christina and I were honoured to perform the Hawaiian hulas Pearly Shells and Hukilau, for Heritage Day.
It is the perfect day to celebrate the diversity of our cultural makeup, in Canada. We are so fortunate to have a mosaic of people from around the world, living in our country. And we are fortunate to have a country that invites people to honour their traditions, not to demand that everyone blends in.
So, it is with joy and gusto that we take this opportunity to celebrate cultures of the south pacific. Today, specifically of the Hawaiian Islands.
We watched dance performances from many other countries, as well as a fashion show of world cultural garb!
What a wonderful day~ thank you all who shared this glorious day with us!
A hui hou kakou! (Until we meet again!)
